Best Doctors® Service

For all group insurance clients who have the Best Doctors® benefit in their contract, these services are offered to employees covered under their health insurance plan and to their dependents.

The service enables members who are faced with a serious critical illness to obtain guidance on their diagnosis and treatment plan from the world’s top physicians who are regarded by their peers as experts in their field. The experts do not replace your attending physician, but rather work with your doctor to ensure the best possible outcome. The service is strictly confidential.

What is Best Doctors®?
Founded in 1989 by doctors affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Best Doctors® gives you access to the expertise of top physicians in over 400 subspecialties of medicine in the U.S., Canada, and worldwide. With more than 50,000 specialists in over 32 countries, Best Doctors® is the global leader of medical information.

How Can Best Doctors® Help?

  • An expert takes a look at your critical illness diagnosis.
  • Provides your doctor with access to the opinions of top specialists in your condition.
  • Confirms diagnosis and identify the most effective treatment.
  • Answers your questions from diagnosis to recovery.

How Does Best Doctors® Work?

  • If you or your Doctor suspect that you have one of the covered medical conditions or you are not confident with your diagnosis or treatment, you simply call the Best Doctors Member Care Centre at 1-888-362-8677.
  • You’ll be connected to a Personal Advocate, a registered nurse, who will be dedicated to you throughout the diagnosis, treatment and recovery process. The first thing the Personal Advocate will help you and your physician do is submit three simple forms, which allow Best Doctors to collect all of your relevant medical information. This way, they can proceed with a review of your specific medical condition.
  • This information is forwarded to a team of specialists who are affiliated with the renowned Harvard Medical School in Boston. Through exhaustive research, this team will help review your case, identify the best specialist for reviewing your condition – regardless of where they are located – and make sure that no stone is left unturned, to help ensure that your diagnosis is correct and that the recommended treatment is the best one.
  • Based on those findings, a detailed report is sent back to you and your doctor. Your Personal Advocate will call to explain the diagnosis, recommended treatment and what your options are.
  • In short, there are three key steps involved in the Best Doctors program. The consultation is provided at no cost.
  • The first is our InterConsultation service, which helps ensure that your diagnosis is correct.
  • The second, FindBestDoc, searches our exclusive global database for the specialists who can best help you with your specific condition.
  • The third step is FindBestCare, which connects you to the finest medical institutions anywhere in the world. It includes a full concierge service to help make all arrangements such as booking airfare, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, translation services, medical appointments, hospital admissions, etc. You, the member, are responsible for all costs related to treatment, travel and lodging.

The important thing to remember about Best Doctors is that they’ll be there every step of the way, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
